Daniela grew up in Venezuela, where she spent most of her childhood. She attended the University of Georgia for both her undergraduate and master’s degrees. While attending the University of Georgia as an undergraduate, she tutored elementary students and taught English to families to help them learn the language, just as many teachers had helped her in high school. After graduating from college, Daniela began her career in education with Teach for America in Atlanta. After teaching and completing her master’s in educational administration and policy in Georgia, she moved to Texas with her husband, where she worked as a teacher and school principal for 15 years.
After working at the school level for many years, she decided to transition to the district level, where she gained insight into educational and non-profit systems and the challenges they face. As a school system leader, Daniela honed many of the skills she learned in the classroom and found ways to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure a positive impact on the students and families she served.
Daniela is a connector and loves to build relationships and systems that support broader social and educational changes for her community. She is passionate about supporting young people, especially young Latinas and first-time voters. She dedicates much of her time to mentoring, registering people to vote, and helping young people find their leadership voice and continue to pay it forward. Daniela volunteers her time with organizations that share similar values, such as Texans Care for Children, the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Seedling Foundation, and Teach for America.
